The Un-Wedding | Minneapolis Portrait Photographer

I shot my first un-wedding a couple of weeks ago before these two lovebirds eloped to Bora Bora.  I have said many times that I won’t shoot weddings…they just aren’t my thing.  I’m much more comfortable in sneakers and jeans chasing kids around.  But.  I do take on the occasional un-wedding…with the condition that I…

Alicia Parrino - July 26, 2012 - 10:02 pm

Thank you for sharing your heart, I can relate 100% as a full time working mama and photographer on the weekends. I feel so torn and gulity for every moment I spend away from my daughter. It is a delicate difficult balance that many many women face. Keep taking out time for her and taking photos of her beautiful face. You are an inspiration to me as a photographer and mother to slow down and take in each special moment before it slips away.

Sharon - June 7, 2012 - 6:12 pm

This is what beauty in its’ purest form is. Wow.

Emma Wood - June 3, 2012 - 7:34 pm

Jess, your words are like echoes of my own heart and your images are full of beauty and love. I savoured each and every word, and one day, so will your daughter. <3

Julia - May 31, 2012 - 1:24 am

Love this, Jess. Your beautiful images, weaved together with such a wonderful lesson is a perfect reminder that our littles are getting big…and nothing is worth missing it. I second Amy’s thoughts on “Amidst all creation…” took my breath away. Beautifully written.

Jody - May 29, 2012 - 4:26 am

Oh Jess, you know I can relate to this post SO much since we basically wrote about the same thing. This is SO me: “But I still find myself saying, ‘just 5 more minutes’ much more than I would like. I find myself distracted when we are together. I find myself unable to sleep as I lay and wish we had spent the day in a more meaningful way.” I hope in some ways it makes you feel better to know you aren’t alone–I know it helps me. <3

Suzy Stark - May 27, 2012 - 6:31 pm

Thanks for making my cry Jess. I can relate to this letter on every level, especially as a photographer and mom and the guilt that comes with “just 5 more minutes”. I made the same vow to myself this past January and it’s pretty wonderful. I even leave my phone and camera at home for our alone time sometimes (sometimes meaning every now and then, and it hurts) to make sure I am not distracted. And this of course, is when really cute and cool things happen….because I am camera-less. :) Your daughter is beautiful, and so are you.

Kirsty-Abu Dhabi - May 27, 2012 - 3:06 pm

Jess, I need to take a lesson from you – to stop, to spend more moments with my girls – to capture those moments too. This letter just resonates so much – I’m so glad you shared your feelings – and I’m so glad you shared your gorgeous images of your gorgeous girl

Rashmi - May 26, 2012 - 7:03 pm

Sweet Jess, you have so eloquently described what so many of us struggle with… balance between work and home and guilt of spending time away from the very reasons we do what we do. I wish you a most wonderful summer, filled with lovely moments just like in your photographs. Promise me you will put the timer on and get in some pictures with your adorable daughter? xoxo

Amy Lucy Lockheart - May 25, 2012 - 3:57 pm

Your letter gave me goosebumps, Jes. This is my favorite part: “Amidst all of creation…to me you are the greatest, most beautiful and special. You are a work of art.” I love that. You are an amazing Mama, Jes. xoxo

Tracy H - May 25, 2012 - 3:45 pm

I so love her outfits!! Mind sharing where you find adorable dresses like this? Do you make them? LOVE!

Sarah Cornish - May 25, 2012 - 3:34 pm

I can so relate a million percent to your letter! We are also approaching my busy season and I deal with the same exact mommy guilt! Your daughter is just so sweet with those precious pig tails and her sweet little round face!! I totally understand how heart wrenching it is to leave these little people even for a moment but someday she will be sooooo profoundly grateful to have such a talented amazing strong mama that has captured all these beautiful images of her childhood! You are giving her one of the biggest gifts imaginable in these letters and your photographs!!! Love your letter so much!

The Tree of Life | MN Family Photographer

A big share today with this lovely mommy and her babes…and just in time for Mother’s Day.  When I got the request to do a session that captured the love between a mother and her children…I was floored.  No one ever asks for that.  I usually have to beg moms to get in the photograph….

These are magical. I have a strong urge to hit the “like” button on all of your posts. Is that too stalker-ish? Well done. Wow.
